Arvel Isaac Spears, 90, of Alma, Ark., passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in his home. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator, a retired minister and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was born July 29, 1922, in the Locke Community to the late Isaac Colne and Claira (Nickum) Spears. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Brown and a brother, Percy Spears. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Spears of the home; two daughters, Saundra Gregory and husband Darrell of Alma, Stephanie Maslakow and husband Frank of Springdale; one son, Bob Spears and wife Nadine of Farmington, Ark.; eight grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Freedom Free Will Baptist Church with interment in Locke Cemetery with military honors. The family will visit with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening, Feb. 25, 2012, at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma. Pallbearers will be Randy Spears, Danny Spears, Keith Gregory, Damon Gregory, Kirk Gregory, Farrell Gregory, Timothy Williams and Caleb Williams.
