Bonnie E. Speck

Bonnie E. Tisdale Garroutte Speck was taken home to be with the Lord at the age of 72 on Feb. 18, 2013, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. Bonnie entered this world on March 20, 1940, at the City Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. She was the only child of Opal Christopher Salsbury and James Wallace Tisdale, who have both preceded her in death. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Roger Speck of the home; her only child, Bonnie Linnet Garroutte Tournear; and her husband, Joseph Clarkson Tournear III, both of Heber Springs, Ark. She was grandmother to one granddaughter, Juliana Linnet Tournear Grist and her husband, Ryan Warner Grist, both of Little Rock, Ark., and one grandson, Joseph Clarkson Tournear IV. She was also survived by one step-grandson, Adam Levi Tournear and step-great-grandson, Clarkson Louis Tournear, both of Charleston, N.C. Bonnie was a stepmother to six stepsons, Steven Speck, Ronald Speck, Gary Speck, Michael Speck (who preceded her in death), Donald Speck and Jeffrey Speck; several step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four aunts and one uncle, Maxine Tando of Farmington, Virgina Salsbury of Elkins, Edna Salsbury of Baldwin and Jo and Robert Salsbury of Farmington. She is survived by several cousins and friends who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Bonnie was an active member of the Round Mountain Missionary Baptist Church more than 45 years, where she served as pianist and organist for many years. Later in life, she was active in helping establish the Bethel Deaf Church of Fayetteville. She is currently a member of Northeast Baptist Church where she served in several areas. Bonnie was raised a farm girl her entire life. She loved the outdoors, animals, gardening and being in the hay field on her little red tractor. She was a cattle farmer for several years and after retiring, she enjoyed sitting in the sun-room visiting with friends, watching the birds and looking at her flowers. Bonnie's other career, as a tax preparer, began after graduating from the Fayetteville Business College and continued for 48 years. She served many clients throughout those years and loved and considered them family. Those that knew Bonnie would say she was a kind, loving, selfless and hard working woman that conquered so many things in her life, despite her hearing disability. Her determination and willingness to help others was an inspiration to all that knew her and she will be missed by so many family members and friends. The family would like to invite you to celebrate Bonnie's life at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Northeast Baptist Church, 2578 Oakland Zion Road, Fayetteville, Ark. Please bring any memories you have of Bonnie to share with the family and friends. There will be a memorial service the morning after at 10 a.m. at the Round Mountain Cemetery.
