Sherman Lloyd Robbins

Sherman Lloyd Robbins, 88, of Elkins passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at home. He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Durham, Ark., to Elbert and Lola Springston Robbins. As a veteran, Sherman served in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman for four years in World War II. He was a mechanic for many years before becoming a rural mail carrier for 21 years. Sherman served faithfully as the superintendent of the Elkins Community Church for 44 years and was a member of the Elkins Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Moselle, to whom he was married for 58 years. Survivors include his brother, Lynn Robbins; sister, Juanita Dobrinski; son, Rex Robbins and his wife, Tina; daughter, Ann Phelan and her husband, David; granddaughter, Samantha Sisemore and her husband, Ken, all of Fayetteville; grandson, JD Robbins and his wife, Rosalind of Beavercreek, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Brian Sisemore, Abigail Sisemore, Brianna Robbins, Laura Robbins and Zackary Sheridan; as well as other family members and numerous friends. His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Beard's Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Elkins Community Church with Dr. Andrew Hall and the Rev. Charlie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the McCord Cemetery.
