James "Jim" L. Blaylock, 74, of Fayetteville went home to be with his Heavenly Father Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Porterville, Calif., to Greer C. and Gladys Blaylock. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1957. He then joined the Navy and proudly served on the U.S.S Forrestal. He served during the Lebanon Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1961. He married Janie Mayfield on Sept. 7, 1962, in Modesto, Calif. James moved his family to Arkansas in 1966 and was employed by the Carnation Company for 25 years. In 1981 he started his own company, the J. Blaylock Company, and retired in 2004. James soon realized that retirement was not for him, and became a bus driver for the Springdale School District as well as working for Riverwood Homes. James loved the Lord Jesus and his family with all his heart. He enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities and making beef jerky. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and set a wonderful Christian example for them to follow. He will be greatly missed, and while we grieve deeply, we also rejoice that he is with our Heavenly Father and look forward to our reunion with him one day. Survivors include his loving wife, Janie; and three children, Rhonda Nelon and husband, Todd, of Atlanta, Ga., Lynda Marquess and husband, Mark, of Fayetteville, Doug Blaylock and wife, Heather, of Fayetteville; sister, Margaret Parker, and brother, Jeriel Blaylock of Hughson, Calif.; sister, Sharon Mitchell and husband, Richard, of Decatur, Ark.; sister, Mary Cooper of Alexandria, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Taylor Marquess and finance, Katie Mabary, Jordan Nelon, Bailey Marquess, Ashley Nelon, Shelby Nelon, Matthew Blaylock and Autumn Blaylock; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, with Pastor Charlie Foster officiating.
