Norman V. Hawley

Norman V. Hawley, 82, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away at his home Dec. 12, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born June 26, 1931, in Smith Center, Kan., to Vernon and Edna Clemison Hawley. He was a graduate of Smith Center High School, class of 1949, and started his retail career in Smith Center with A.D. Soapes and J.C. Penney. He joined Walmart in 1974 and was the general merchandise manager of the jewelry division until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he and wife, Norva, spent many happy hours traveling together and following their grandchildren's sports and music events. He was truly their biggest fan. Norman also competed for many years as a Masters Swimmer, winning numerous awards in the Senior Olympics and other swimming events. He was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church in Rogers. He is preceded in death by his parents. Norman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norva; three sons, Bruce Hawley and wife, Lynette of Fort Smith, Ark., Ron Hawley and wife, Ginni of Springfield, Mo., and Mitch Hawley and wife Zem of Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Oral Hawley and wife, Pam of Salina, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Pinnacle Memorial Gardens in Rogers. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM at Central United Methodist Church in Rogers with the Rev. Carness Vaughan officiating. Memorials may be made in honor of Norman Hawley to Central United Methodist Church, 2535 West New Hope Road, Rogers, AR 72758 or to the American Cancer Society, Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary's, 1200 West Walnut, Ste 2313, Rogers, AR 72756.
