Roy Andrew Kaiser, age 97, passed peacefully Nov. 19, 2013, at Overlake Terrace, Redmond, Wash. Roy was born March 4, 1916, on the Andrew and Carrie Kaiser farm near Lewis, Iowa. Roy graduated from Lewis High School and from Grand Island Business College, Grand Island, Neb. Roy married high school sweetheart, Marian Hazel Pierce. Children from their 75-year marriage are daughter, Jean Sillers, and son, Richard (Dick) Kaiser. Always a hard-worker and good-provider, Roy served for two years in the U.S. Navy and was employed 34 years by the Soil Conservation Service in Bismarck, N.D., and Bowie, Md. Roy and Marian retired in 1972 to Springdale, Ark. Roy was a expert gardener cultivating vegetables, fruit, and flowers — especially roses. At one time, Roy's garden included 70 varieties of beautiful roses. Roy delighted in giving garden produce and flowers to friends, neighbors and his church. Roy was an active member of First Church United Methodist in Springdale for 34 years. Roy enjoyed the outdoors — hunting, fishing, golf — and social activities — bridge and square-dancing. At age 91, Roy and Marian moved to the Overlake Terrace Assisted Living Facility. Roy and Marian lived at Overlake until his death. Roy is survived by wife Marian, daughter Jean Sillers, son-in-law Bruce Sillers, son Richard Kaiser, granddaughter Laurie Halvorson, grandson-in-law Paul Halvorson, great-grandson Bjorn Halvorson and great-granddaughter Heather Halvorson. Roy is also survived by his brother, James Kaiser and sisters: Corrine Gunderson and Dorothy Johnson. A gathering of immediate family to honor Roy's life was held on Nov. 27, 2013.
