Joann Elder Baker

Joanna Elder Baker, 83 of Garden City, Mo., formerly of Rogers, passed away Nov. 30, 2013, in Garden City, Mo. She was born March 21, 1930, in Pasadena, Calif., the daughter of Joseph and Marjorie Warren Elder. She was a restaurant manager for 12 years, worked for many years as a manager at Save A Dollar Gas Station of Bentonville, Ark., a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Rogers, Ark., and also an Auxiliary member of the American Legion post 100. She moved to Garden City in 2002 to live with her daughter (Nancy). She is a member of Coleman Baptist Church of Peculiar, Mo., she is also a member of the American Legion post 498 of Garden City, Mo., she also volunteered many hours at Shepherd's Staff Food Pantry of Harrisonville, Mo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marjorie Warren Elder; her husband, Robert Martin Baker; one grandson, Donnie Ray Baker; her brothers and sister, John Elder, Margie Tatum, and Thomas Elder. She is survived by her children, Lyle Baker and Debbie Baker, both of Centralia, Mo., Nancy Baker of Garden City, Mo.; grandson, Keith Baker and wife Cathy and great-grandson Cale Baker of St. Peters, Mo.; granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Baker and stepgreat-granddaughter, Ashley Wiemer, both of Washington, Iowa; granddaughter, Ginger Honderick and husband Jason Honderick; great-grandson, Justin Honderick and great-granddaughter, Ashley Honderick of Harrisonville, Mo.; granddaughter, Sherry Sharp and great-granddaughter, Gracie Sharp of Harrisonville, Mo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by honorary daughters and son Wanda McCombs of Peculiar, Mo.; Jana Carr and Bruce Johnson of Grandview, Mo.; Gini Corradino of Evans, Ga.; and Fran Cranmer of Rogers, Ark. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, with services at 2 at Coleman Baptist Church in Peculiar, Mo. Visitation will be 10:30 to 11 Tuesday with services at 11 at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, Ark. Interment will follow in the Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 498 of Garden City, Mo., and American Cancer Association.
