Paul David Chapman

Paul David Chapman, 89, of Springdale died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Ashley Health and Rehab in Rogers. He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Lavaca, Ark. Paul served in the United States Navy on a destroyer in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1952. Paul and his family previously resided in Magnolia and Little Rock before taking the position of executive director of Tulsa Urban Renewal Authority in 1962. He was the first person to hold this position in the state of Oklahoma. He retired in 1992 and moved back to Springdale where he was an active volunteer at the Jones Center, the V.A. Hospital and Meals on Wheels in Springdale. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Jo Bee Chapman, of the home; one daughter, Paula Bolen of Springdale; one son, David Chapman and wife, Donna, of Springdale; three grandchildren, John Chapman, Blake Chapman, and Hayley Gray and husband, Jency; one sister, Lena Mayness of Lavaca; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale. An open visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.
