Lawrence R. "Larry" Timmons

Lawrence R. "Larry" Timmons, 94, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at his home. He was born May 26, 1919 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Hugh Alan Timmons and Gladys Marie Stephens Timmons. He was raised in Kansas, graduating from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, where he had an outstanding athletic career in football, culminating with the Chicago Bears football team in 1945. He graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kan., and attended grad school at the University of Kansas. While serving in the U.S. Navy during WW II, he played with the Navy All-Star team in the first football game ever played in Manila, Philippines. Larry is enshrined in the Baker University Hall of Fame for his achievements in football and track. In 1949, Larry married Lillian F. Myers in Kansas City, Mo. He coached football and basketball, he was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglass Corporation, and the Ford Motor Company. Retiring in 1978, they moved to Bella Vista, Ark. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Thomas and Robert, and his granddaughter, Sara Earles- Stillwell. Larry is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Bella Vista, Ark.; his son, Stephen Alan Timmons and his wife Julie of Sante Fe, N.M.; daughter, Jane Denise Earles and her husband Brent, of Carrollton, Texas; two grandchildren, Jared Earles and Shawn Timmons, and sister, Lela Jones, of Henderson, Nev. A Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, Ark.
