Lester G. Walker

Lester G. Walker, 94, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Rogers. He was born July 14, 1918, the son of Ernest Gilmore Walker and Mable Clair Reisner Walker in Bridgeport, Caddo County, Okla. On July 4, 1941, he was married to the former Flora Mae Thrasher for 68 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1941, and was a truck driver for many years in Kansas before moving to Northwest Arkansas in the early 1980s. He was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Rogers, enjoyed gardening, being with his church family and cheering for the Texas Rangers. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; twin brother, Chester; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Martha Turner and Neva Walker. Survivors include a niece, Joy Hammond, and two nephews, James Thrasher and Jerry Lynn Thrasher, all of Oklahoma; cousins, George (Leotta) Talley of Winslow, Ark., Ollie Mauldin, Sarah Ault, Osie Perry and Melva Kerr, all of California, Floyd (Liz) Talley of Colorado, Helen Knox of Oklahoma, Ellen Kunzman of Texas, Wanda (Lloyd) Thornton of Florida; as well as his church family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Downtown Church of Christ in Rogers. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
