Donald Lee Johnson, 95, of Springdale, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the VA Health Care Center of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. He was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Wesson, Ark., to Guy Monroe and Minnie Graves Johnson. Donald always stated that he had two jobs, the Navy and the University. He served aboard the USS Wharton in the Pacific during WWII. After retiring from the Navy, he worked in the agronomy department of the University of Arkansas doing soy bean variety research. He also enjoyed raising his own large gardens each year. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Mae Ainsworth Johnson; two brothers, Orville and Milum Johnson; and a sister, Mildred Hall. He is survived by four daughters, Barbara McCamish of Springdale, Betty Evans and husband, Ben of Phoenix, Ariz., Sharon Adamson and husband, Ronnie of Springdale and Carol Ann Johnson, also of Springdale; and two grandchildren, Pamela Ritchie and Danny Ivan McCamish. Private interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Heritage Funeral Home, online guest book at heritageofnwa.com.
