Dr. Edward L. Nichols

Dr. Edward L. Nichols, 83, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Nov. 26, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, Ark. Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Pindall, Ark., he was the son of H.M. Nichols and Laura Reeves Nichols. He received a B.S.E. from UCA and an M.Ed. degree from Ball State. Dr. Nichols received his Ed.D. from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. He was a college professor at Le Tourneau University, Longview, Texas, prior to moving to Siloam Springs in 1960, where he began teaching at John Brown University. He was a member of the JBU Hall of Fame, Phi Delta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society. On April 28, 1951, Dr. Nichols married his first wife, Mary Jane Landis, in Little Rock, Ark. He married Carol W. Steele on Dec. 23, 1989, in Siloam Springs. Dr. Nichols was a member of First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Nichols in 1975; his parents; six brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Carol of the home; one son, Eddy Nichols and wife, Ruth, of Owasso, Okla.; one daughter, Lydia Collins and husband, Gene, of Siloam Springs; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters; nine step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs, with Dr. Steve Abbott officiating. To sign the online guest book, visit www.wassonfuneralhome.com.
