Alta Maire Byrd

Alta M. Byrd, 85, of Bentonville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at The Gardens at Osage Terrace nursing home. She was born Feb., 12, 1927, in Sallisaw, Okla., to Emmett and Flora Bennett Mattox. Alta was a loving mother and grandmother. She took a lot of proud out of her two grandchildren, Anthony and Angelica Byrd. Alta was most active when she was serving at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville. Formerly, Alta served at Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa until she moved to Bentonville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Byrd Sr. of whom she was married to for 34 years; her parents; and several siblings. Alta is survived by one son, Paul M. Byrd Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Bella Vista; one brother, James Mattox of Lexington, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Anthony Byrd and Angelica Byrd of Fayetteville. There will be a private family burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Okla. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gardens at Osage Terrace, 3317 S.E. "L" St., Bentonville, AR 72712.
