Noma Eugenia Gargano

Noma Eugenia Gargano, 79, died at home on Nov. 17, 2012 after extended illnesses. She was born July 21, 1933, in Springdale, Ark., to Orval and Elizabeth (Bryant) Phillips, who both preceded her in death. Noma graduated from high school in Springdale and then became an RN after completing the nursing program at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and went on to become a nurse in the U.S. Army at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Richard. They spent many years in the Chicago suburbs, two years in Stamford, Conn., and the last 28 years in the Akron, Ohio, area and their winter home in Ocala, Fla. Known to many as "Rusty", she loved her family and friends, her yard, her flower gardens and her pets. She was previously an active member of Witan, BVS and Friends of Children's Hospital in the Akron area. Noma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard; brother, Bard Phillips and Jeanne of Lowell, Ark.; son, Gary Gargano of Geneva, Ill.; daughter, Vicki Gargano of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Phillip, Katherine and Christine of Geneva, Ill., and Samantha of Austin, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in various areas of the country. Services will be held at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Ark., at 12 p.m., Saturday Nov. 24, 2012, following a calling period that morning beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow immediately thereafter at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Ark.
