Jane Currie

Jane Currie, age 99, of St. James died on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in St. James. Burial will be at a later date in Elk River, Minn. Cora Jane Stelzner was born June 27, 1913, in Fayetteville, Ark., to parents William Boyd and Cora (Miser) Stelzner. Jane grew up in Fayetteville, where she graduated from high school. She earned her bachelor's degree in math and English from the University of Arkansas in 1936. She was proud of her membership in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Pi Mu Epsilon math fraternity. She married Robert Currie on Dec. 25, 1939. The couple made their home in many locations around the country due to Bob's job. After WWII, they moved to Elk River, Minn., where Jane was president of the Women's Club. In 1956, they moved to St. James, where she owned and operated her fabric and yarn shop until 1980. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, moderator of the Presbyterian Women, and sang in the choir for over 40 years. Jane was the first woman honored as a lifetime member of the St. James Chamber of Commerce. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, reading, traveling, golf and church activities. Jane is survived by her daughters, Jo Anne (Lyndon) Lang of Cumming, Ga., and Cathleen Marie Currie of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Lang of Charlotte, N.C., Julia Kaye Daly of Decatur, Ga., and Angela Gayle Lang of Charlotte, N.C.; and great-grandsons, Graham, Jackson and Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Jane Elizabeth "Betsy" Currie; parents; and a brother, William Boyd Stelzner.
