George Michael Durlin Sr.

George Michael Durlin Sr. died on Oct. 16, 2012, in Quincy, Ill., after a long fight with cancer. He was born July 6, 1944, in Berryville, Ark., and lived in the Garfield, Ark., area since 1988 after living in California for many years. He loved being in the country and loved fly fishing and chatting with people. He went to Eureka Springs High School and joined the Navy while living in Lowell, Ark. He served during the Vietnam War on the USS Union (AKA-106), an Attack Cargo Ship, transporting U.S. Marines and munitions to De Nang, Cam Ranh Bay, and Chu Li, as well as many other ports of interest on a Westpac tour. He is survived by his children, George Jr., David, Melissa Klopstock; his stepdaughter, Jodi Maxson; seven grandchildren; his brother, David Durlin; along with many aunts, uncles and several cousins. He was preceded by his father, Maurice; and his mother, Helen (Hoover) Durlin Nichols; and his elder brother, Maurice (Ricky) Durlin. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2012, at the Believers Community Church, 924 S. C St., in Rogers, Ark. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers, will be appreciated.
