James Samuel Scott, age 59, of Benton passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, after his battle with lung cancer. He was born July 7, 1953, in Little Rock. Sam was employed as a mail carrier by Little Rock Community Mental Health Center. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Scott. Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Medlock Scott, Benton; two brothers, Robert M. (Bob) Scott and wife, Waynette Gambill Scott, Jeffersonville, Ind., Timothy Wayne (Tim) Scott and his wife, Kathy Roper Scott, Bentonville, Ark.; aunts and uncles, Milton Bard Scott and wife, Margaret, Benton, Randall Chastain, Benton, Hugh Medlock and wife, Johnnie, Texas, Jacqueline Choate and husband, Hubert, Oklahoma; and other family members. Sam was a farmer, cattleman and an integral partner in the Scott family farm. He was also an avid and successful gardener and fisherman. Sam was very generous with the fruits of both. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Scott Cemetery on Congo Road in Benton.
