Louis A. Brown Jr., 92, died Oct. 31, 2012, at his home. He was better known around the area as "The Candy Airplane Man." He was born on June 19, 1920, in Salina, Kan., to the late Louis A. Brown Sr. and Maud E. (Rodwell) Slyter. He made over 2,000 candy airplanes last year and 200,000 over his lifetime. They were constructed out of candy canes, gum wrappers and mints and he handed them out to people around town. Mr. Brown drove the city bus in Wichita, Kan., Pine Bluff and Fayetteville for over 25 years and in Little Rock in the '50s and mid '60s. Then he went to work for Emerson Electric for the next 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Arkansas State Guard, organized during WWII. He is survived by his two sons, Joe Brown and Robert Brown, both of Rogers. He also leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Brown in February of 1991; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brown; two brothers, Jack and Richard Slyter; and one sister, Marie Rolland. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rogers on Olive and 8th Street. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery. A visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home Rogers. Please make donations in his honor to the charity of your choice.
