Joseph Hall Clark

Joseph Hall Clark, 91, of Fayetteville died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville. The son of Joseph Henry Clark and Zeulia Cordelia Hall, he was born May 13, 1921, in Ralls, Texas. He was preceded in death by Mary Ellen Clark, his wife of 57 years, who passed in 2005; and six of his siblings, Syliva Morrow, Marvin Clark, Golvia Lewis, Lillan Marton, Una Latham and Clessa Lawson. Mr. Clark served in the United States Marine Corps' Second Division during WWII. He fought in some of the fiercest battles in the South Pacific, including Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. Clark eventually served as a tank commander, was awarded the Purple Heart and was given an honorable discharge as a corporal. After the war, Clark returned to Fayetteville. He worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 35 years and later worked for the Northwest Arkansas Times. Mr. Clark is survived by four sons, Joseph Clark of Columbia, Mo., John Clark, Mark Clark, Benjamin Clark, all of Fayetteville; one daughter, Sarah Baur of Anaconda, Mont.; one granddaughter, Tevian Rose of Bentonville; one grandson, Joseph Roger Clark of Richmond, Va.; and three great-grandchildren. In addition, he has two living sisters, Lavonia Hobbs and Nita Dominguez, both of Taos, N.M.; 21 nieces and nephews; and, 40 grand-nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct.. 5, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
