Marie Evans-Jones, 90, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born in Webber Falls, Okla., to Maude Marie and John Cleveland Sevier on Nov. 23, 1921. She became a resident of Van Buren, Ark., at an early age and resided there about 60 years. She married J.N. Evans Jr. on March 1, 1945. She was a full-time homemaker and mother until the loss of her husband on Nov. 13, 1964. Later, she was a receptionist for 18 years in the optometric office of Dr. William Polk in Fort Smith. While residing in Van Buren, she was a member of St. John's Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in the women's ministries. Later, she was a member of City Heights United Methodist Church. Currently, she was a member of New Heights Church of Fayetteville. Her active memberships were a testimony to her abiding faith in Christ and His Grace and Salvation for her eternal rest in him. She moved to Fayetteville, Ark., in August 2002 to be closer to her two children. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.N. Evans Jr.; and her second husband, Harland L. Jones, whom she married in August 1992. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Anna Kaiser; and one brother, J.D. Sevier. Survivors include her daughter, Niolene Evans Stanley and husband, Bill; her son, Marshall Dale Evans and wife, Sheila, all of Fayetteville. She was fondly referred to as "Granny Ree" by grandsons, Patrick Jay Martin and wife, Julie Ann, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Ashley M. Martin IV and wife, Dayla, of Fayetteville. She also leaves granddaughters, Jennifer Treat and Michelle Hartman of Fayetteville; grandsons, Doug Stanley and wife, Jennifer, of Lake Forest, Calif., and William "Stan" Stanley of Pahokee, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl McCutcheon of Muskogee, Okla., and Claire Ward of New Orleans, La.; brother, George Sevier, also of Muskogee; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to New Height Church, 2889 North College Ave., Fayetteville, AR 72703; or City Heights Methodist Church, 1002 Fayetteville, Road, Van Buren, AR 72956. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at City Hospital of Fayetteville especially Toby, Heather and Jill; plus our special caregivers, Brenda Schossow and Sharlyn Bailey.
