Mary Jane Nestler, 95, of Bentonville, Ark., went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 9, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. She was born May 15, 1916, in Potter, Kan., to Fred Powers and Elva Edisa Martin. She attended school in Potter, Kan., and moved to Atchison, Kan., sometime later. She married Louis B. Nestler on Nov. 23, 1938, with the Rev. Sam Hamrick officiating in Atchison. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Atchison and a member and past-president of WELCA. She enjoyed working on quilts and cooking church dinners. She was a life member of the Missionary Society and was also honored as the Woman of the Year for all her caring work in the church. She was one of nine people who took training in Kansas City to help start the Atchison Shepherd Center which was organized in 1985. She also enjoyed helping the Salvation Army prepare Thanksgiving dinners for several years. She was a volunteer at the Helping Hand Store at Mount Saint Scholastica for several years. Her volunteer work continued at Twice is Nice thrift shop for the Atchison Hospital. She worked with her husband at Nestler Cleaners until they retired and sold the business in 1977. She also assisted her husband in the business of Seairland World Co. She enjoyed traveling in Europe and the United States. Mary is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ellen Cummins and husband, Larry Eugene, of Bentonville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Dawn Cunningham of Rogers, Ark., Joy Swenson of St. Charles, Minn., April Schultz of Pea Ridge, Ark., Mark Cummins of Ozark, Mo.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Michelle Baron, Christopher Baron, Dakota Swenson, Serrena Sylvia Schultz, Levi Tristan Schultz, Nichole Cunningham, Chance Cunningham, Ryan Cummins, Kelsey Cummins, Kylie Cummins, Kevin Cummins; one niece, Joyce Roach of Chickasha, Okla.; one nephew, Tom Roach of Hillsboro, Ore.; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew. Memorial services will be announced at a later date and will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Atchison, Kan. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Atchison. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foundation of St. Peter-David Beams Shack Attack in Guatemala City, Guatemala, P.O. Box 560233, Orlando, FL, 32856-9917.
