Mildred L Peel

Mildred L. Peel, 100, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at North Hills Life Care and Rehab. She was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Douds, Iowa, to Artie and Susie Russell Casady. Mildred was a member of the First Christian Church in Fayetteville for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Peel, in 1992. Mildred and Leo belonged to a 2-table and a 3-table bridge group, and the Evening Lions and Lady Lions. Mildred was a legal secretary, and later helped her husband in all his businesses. And she was treasurer of her church circle for 30 years. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club, Phi Sigma Alpha, and was elected president of the Washington County Republican Women's Club. She was proudest of the fact that she got to call Winthrop Rockefeller and invite him to Fayetteville to speak when he was running for governor. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandchild. Survivors include one son, Mark Peel of Mississippi; two daughters, Jacquelyn Fifer of Fayetteville and Gelene Keithley of Bolivar, Tenn.; one sister, Viola Carnes of Ottumwa, Iowa; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Ryan Pfeiffer and Dr. James D. Johnson assisting. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 220 N.
