Alton "Phell" Peterson, age 89, passed away March 3, 2012 in Rogers, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg. Interment will follow at Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Alton "Phell" Peterson was born on June 19, 1922 in Roaring Springs, Texas to James Elias and Cassie (Robinette) Peterson. Phell attended school in a one room school house in Petersburg. He was the youngest of 10 children, all who preceded him in death. Phell honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Third Armor Division, Landing on Omaha Beach D-Day Plus 10 and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Phell married Dorothy Mae Bilberry on November 22, 1945 in Lovington, New Mexico, they were blessed with two sons, Paul and Craig. Phell graduated from Spartan School of Aviation in 1951 and spent his career as a licensed airplane mechanic and later as a licensed inspector of aviation. He was an avid photographer and throughout his life enjoyed camping and travel. Phell was also a Mason, and enjoyed the time spent at his lodge and with his fellow Masons. His is survived by his sons; Paul Evans Peterson, Craig Peterson and wife Delma, four grandchildren, one step granddaughter, and six great grandchildren.
