Helen Wolfe Amussen

Helen Wolfe Amussen, 87, of Kearneysville, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at her residence. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of the late John Wolfe and Helen (Collins) Wolfe. Mrs. Amussen was a registered dietitian, community advocate, seamstress, recreational artist and an avid bridge player. Mrs. Amussen was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. She helped develop the Community Meals outreach ministry both at Central United Methodist Church and at St. Paul's. Her vision, dietary skills and good humor played a prominent role in building that program into one that today feeds more than five hundred people weekly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Donald Amussen; one son, Erik Amussen; one brother and one sister. She is survived by a daughter, Laura Pierpaoli and husband Michael, Sgt. 1st Class, of Kearneysville; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal, the Revs. Suzanne Stoner and Lowell Grisham officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Columbarium. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1190, Fayetteville, AR 72702.
