FAYETTEVILLE -- Ofelia Cypert, who filed to run for the District 1 seat on the Washington County Quorum Court, has dropped out of the race but will remain on the ballot.
Cypert told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in an email Wednesday that she was withdrawing from the race for the Republican Party nomination for the seat, adding she had "contacted all parties" about her decision to withdraw.
She did not give a reason for her decision in the email. When contacted by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Friday morning, Cypert said she had no time to discuss the matter.
County Clerk Becky Lewallen said Friday that state law requires candidates to send a written and witnessed or notarized letter or statement of a decision to withdraw from a race.
