Greenwood swept a 5A-West Conference doubleheader from Van Buren last week, and Grant Karnes played a major role in both wins.

Karnes scored the winning run in the second game after pitching Greenwood to victory in the opener against Van Buren. For his effort, Karnes is the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette boys Player of the Week.

Karnes struck out 10, walked 1 and allowed 2 hits when Greenwood won the first game 3-2 over the Pointers. Karnes, a standout receiver in football for the Bulldogs, also drove in a run in the first inning with a single.

Van Buren appeared headed for a split of the doubleheader before Greenwood overcame a six-run deficit to win 9-8. Karnes contributed a single in the fifth inning with the Bulldogs scored six runs to tie the game 8-8.
