SUV
The McPherson Camp No. 1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will meet at 7 p.m. May 16 at Gusano's Pizza, 2603 W. Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers. Dinner and visitation begin at 6. The SUV is a patriotic, fraternal organization made up of male descendants of United States service members and government officials who served between 1861-65.

Hill Hikers
The Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, invite all interested walkers to join us for a walk on May 25 in Fayetteville. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Walgreens at 4007 N. Shiloh Drive. There is a fee of $3 for credit and $2 for noncredit. There is a short drive to the starting point (Lake Fayetteville) where participants will choose either a 5K or 10K walk.
Membership dues to the Ozark Hill Hikers are $12 a year prorated $1 for each month remaining in the calendar year.

The Rotary Club of Fayetteville will meet at 11:45 a.m. May 26 at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. The program will be given by Michelle Oglesby, past president of the Rotary Club in Sherwood.

RHM Friends
The Friends of the Rogers Historical Museum awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Caleb Campbell, a senior at Haas Hall Academy. The presentation was made at a reception in the museum's Dickerson Room on May 4.
In awarding this scholarship, Friends Board Chairman Sandy Chalmers said: "The city of Rogers has a long history of commitment to education. This still is evidenced today by the tremendous community support for its public school system. The Friends of the Rogers Historical Museum are honored to continue this commitment to education by presenting this scholarship to Caleb Campbell."
Campbell graduated from Haas Hall with a 3.75 GPA. During his high school years, he participated in Quiz Bowl, Model United Nations, Model Arab League and the Spanish Cub. In Model UN, he received Honorable Mention as an outstanding delegate. He was also a two-time All Star on the Quiz Bowl team.
To qualify for the Friends scholarship, Campbell was required to complete 100 hours of volunteer work. He completed the 100 hours yet continued to work at the museum. His activities included weeding the garden, helping move into the new museum, entering data and creating presentations.
As to the future, Campbell plans to attend the University of Arkansas. The areas he intends to focus on are supply chain management, macroeconomics and either psychology or U.S. history.

NextUp
The Northwest Chapter of NextUp will host "Vulnerable Leadership: Activating Beyond Buzzwords" from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 via Zoom, in partnership with Procter & Gamble, SheSpeaks Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company.
The event will discuss today's evolving expectations of both employees and leaders in the workplace, and how to go from using industry jargon and buzzwords to exemplify these qualities in daily action.
Registration is open to all. The cost for NextUp members is $10, and for nonmembers, $30. Registration is required.

On April 30 the Girl Scouts of Southern Washington County held their second annual Fishing Derby at the Elks Lodge in Fayetteville. Nearly 60 girls from all over Northwest Arkansas participated in the event. Girls fished in 45 minute timed “heats” by age group, Daisies (K-second grade), Brownies (second and third grade), and juniors through jeniors (fourth grade through high school). Prizes were awarded to the top three winners in each heat for the most fish caught. The Elks Lodge also donated popsicles for all the girls to have afterwards. Perfect Harmony Women’s Barbershop chorus recently sang to a very responsive and appreciative audience at Concordia in Bella Vista and Green Acres Senior Living facility in Rogers. The chorus is in need of bass singers. No previous experience or tryouts are required.
