Woman’s body found in Franklin County; state police treating case as homicide

A woman's body was found Wednesday near Altus, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Franklin County sheriff's deputies received a report about the body near Arkansas 186, south of Interstate 40, about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a state police news release. The Sheriff's Department asked state police to lead the investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim's identity was unknown. Her body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death, according to the release.

Special agents of the state police Criminal Investigation Division are treating the case as a homicide, the release states.
