Forecasters are saying Northwest Arkansas and River Valley residents should take precautions this weekend amidst excessive heat.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for both regions Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Heat index values are expected to rise to 107 degrees Friday and 109 Saturday, according to the service's website.

High temperatures of 97 in Fayetteville and 101 in Fort Smith are expected for Friday. Highs of 98 and 101 are predicted for Saturday.

"The combination of temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees, combined with high humidity, will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible," the service said on its website.
