Lawmakers should pass response to immigrants

I am the son of immigrants from generations ago. One of the saddest inactions of Congress has been its inability to figure out a solution to the millions of illegal immigrants. The USA has not removed these people. Our government should have a plan for them to become legal citizens.

When President Biden recommends a solution to the current Congress, please urge your House representative and senators to approve the bill.

Where is the urgency in vaccines' delivery?

In my 30-plus years in the paper industry, we quickly learned that weekends, holidays, vacations, etc., were not sacred. Every minute of down time meant lost profits. "All hands on deck" was expected when there was a major problem.

I have a mental picture of the FedEx trucks loaded with covid vaccine, blues lights flashing and sirens blaring. There was a real sense of urgency to get these vaccines out. Then I hear about Monday through Friday and "after the holiday" administration of the vaccines ... along with all the other governmental delays. Where is the sense of urgency?

Arkansas government has an opportunity to demonstrate what can be done if they are willing to get out of the Monday through Friday, 9-to-5 mindset. Mass drive-through clinics 24-7 will be necessary as a minimum. I read where Mississippi has created a statewide, online portal where residents can log in and find out where to go at an appointed time to receive their covid-19 vaccines. Why not in Arkansas?

When the state is averaging 500 shots per day and 3,500 cases per day, you don't have to be real smart to see that we are heading for a large-scale mess.

Hey, anti-vaxxers, keep up good work

I don't care if people insist on abandoning other irrational positions, like the Earth is flat or only a few thousand years old; more guns make society safer; the moon landings were faked; the coronavirus is a hoax (Rush Limbaugh); the contention that Trump actually won the election instead of losing by a landslides; or the ridiculous QAnon conspiracy nonsense. But please, please, they should hold fast to their anti-vax position.

Why would I like them to commit to a position of such stupidity? I have a personal interest. As a Vietnam Purple Heart vet (according to Trump I came close to being one of those "suckers and losers," his description of our honored war dead, confirmed by Fox News), I will be vaccinated by Veterans Affairs soon. The VA has been super, and I cannot say enough good things about the Fayetteville staff.

My beloved wife of almost 50 years, however, will not be getting vaccinated anytime soon, if the current Arkansas response and slow delivery of vaccine due to inadequate purchases and chaotic roll out by the Trump administration is any indication. So, the more people who refuse vaccination, the sooner my wife can get it.

They should not consider they might get infected and become very ill or even die. And they should not consider that many who are now reported in the "recovered" category actually face long rehabilitation and even permanent damage to their lungs, heart, kidneys, etc. The medical community calls them "long-haulers" because of their continuing need for treatment and rehabilitation.

Please do not consider that.
