NWA fishing report

Beaver Lake

Striped bass are biting on the south half of the lake.

Reese Jones at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers recommends fishing between Prairie Creek park and Point 12. Use shad, brood minnows or Alabama rigs 20 to 40 feet deep.

Try for walleye with crank baits or jerk baits. Black bass fishing is slow. Good lures include Alabama rigs, jerk baits or jig and pigs. Crappie are 15 to 20 feet deep and biting minnows or jigs around brush.

Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville reports striped bass are hitting top-water lures at first light. Use brood minnows later in the day. Average surface water temperature is in the mid-40s.

Beaver tailwater

Beaver Dam Store said the best baits for trout fishing are Power Bait in bright colors or nightcrawlers. Good lures include small Flicker Shad or Rapala crank baits. Small jigs or small spoons may work.

For fly fishing, use a a size 16 midge under a strike indicator. Woolly buggers are working well. Micro jigs in olive color combined with some orange or black are worth a try.

Lakes Fayetteville, Sequoyah

The lakes reopened on Friday after their seasonal closure. Too soon for a fishing report this week. Reports will resume next week.

Bella Vista

Chip Wiseman at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista recommends fishing trout at Lake Brittany with white or yellow Power Bait or Gulp bait. Anglers report catching some good-sized golden trout as well as rainbow trout.

Go for black bass at any Bella Vista lake with jerk baits, crank baits or Alabama rigs.

Swepco Lake

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs recommends fishing for black bass at Swepco Lake with plastic worms or swim baits. Try a spinner bait or crank bait on windy days.

Illinois River

Stroud recommends fishing for black bass with small jerk baits or tube baits.

Eastern Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports fair fishing at Lake Tenkiller for largemouth bass with crank baits or plastic worms. Fish around docks, rocks and timber.

Crappie are biting well on jigs worked close to brush piles or standing timber.

Table Rock Lake

Focused Fishing guide service said the best fishing for black bass is in deep water.

Locate schools of shad in the main lake, then work a jigging spoon or swim bait 40 to 65 feet deep. Finding shad is key. Bluff ends often hold shad schools. Try a jerk bait along steep points on the main lake. Bass are biting Alabama rigs in the James River arm.
