"Ignorance"

The Weather Station

Fat Possum

The Weather Station -- project of Tamara Lindeman -- released her new album, "Ignorance," Feb. 5 and revealed that she has created a novel sonic landscape for The Weather Station. It's as hi-fi a record as Lindeman has ever made, breaking into pure pop at moments, at others a dense wilderness of notes; a deeply rhythmic and painful record that feels more urgent and clear than her work ever has. The natural world is everywhere on this record, intruding with force and poignancy.

Of her dynamic stunner single, "Parking Lot," Lindeman says: "'Parking Lot' is my strange gentle disco song about a humble encounter with a bird and being tired and being in love, and being heartbroken in ways I didn't quite yet understand. I don't fully know how everything connects in this song other than it obviously does. I wanted to make the recording very passionate and beautiful while also being very muscular while also being very gentle, and so I did."

"Normal Isn't Normal Anymore"

Rod Abernethy

A Southern folk troubadour, master acoustic guitarist and award-winning composer for film, TV and video games, it's not often that a renaissance man like Rod Abernethy comes along. On Feb 5, Abernethy proudly added his new full-length album "Normal Isn't Normal Anymore" to his vast catalog of works. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Neilson Hubbard (Mary Gauthier, Kim Richey, Glen Phillips), "Normal Isn't Normal Anymore" is a mixture of guitar virtuosity and world-class songwriting, most of which happened on Abernethy's last year of touring.

The album has received praise from fans and critics alike, including The Wall Street Journal, who complimented his "impressive guitar-picking," No Depression, and Americana Highways, who said, "What's instantly likable are the voice and compositions that gel perfectly with originality turns of phrases that create clever appetizing moments. This may be one of the year's best already. He's a vivid, expressive artist."

"glbl wrmng vol. 1"

Pell

Ingrooves

New Orleans rapper Pell will release new conceptual project "glbl wrmng vol. 1" Feb. 19. GLBL WRMG is a new NOLA-centric collective launched by Pell and music professional Nate "Suave" Cameron of 20+ local artists and producers including Malik NinetyFive, Jzzle, Jelly of Tank and the Bangas, Lil Iceberg, Kr3wcial and more. "glbl wrmng vol. 1" is an ode to the strength and resilience of their beloved hometown and emphasizes the city's heroic survival.

"I wanted to make records with all my hometown friends that didn't have to be just Pell records that could showcase the talent of New Orleans and what we had to offer," Pell says.

"glbl wrmng vol. 1" aims to capture the beauty, vibrancy and, most importantly, resiliency of New Orleans -- a city that can attest to the harsh realities of climate change -- while simultaneously showcasing the artists and producers who are reinventing (and heating up) the city's sound. GLBL WRMNG will be rolling out community initiatives involving recycling and gardens to give back to their local neighborhoods throughout the year.

"Dark River"

Lydia Luce

Nashville's incredible multi-instrumentalist Lydia Luce's sophomore album, "Dark River," is a distinct new take for Luce and a unique blend of classical, vintage pop and indie rock influences. The album drops Feb. 26 and is already gaining notoriety from NPR Music to Under The Radar, who recently stated "Luce's lustrous vocals run atop the rich instrumental, filling the song with resonant power as she reflects on her attempts to reach the divine."

Luce was known as the go-to strings session player in Nashville working with everyone from Dolly Parton to Eminem but is now stepping into her own spotlight. She is completely independent and without the help of a label has amassed millions of streams (6.1 million in 2020 alone) through Spotify playlist inclusions.

Luce grew up in a strict musical household where her mother was a professional conductor and did not present learning the violin as a choice. From six years old she excelled in numerous philharmonics but knew her path was not that of a professional classical musician. "Dark River's" themes include anxiety and reflecting on the environmental crisis, a reality Luce faced personally after being hit by the Tennessee March tornado that ripped through her home in East Nashville. She also draws on the risky summit hikes and tumultuous relationship that inspired her poignant tales of loneliness, isolation and clarity of mind.
