J.B. Hunt reports first quarter earnings

LOWELL -- JB Hunt Transport Services Inc. (JBHT) on Thursday reported first-quarter profit of $146.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Lowell, Arkansas-based company said it had profit of $1.37.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.18 per share.

The trucking and logistics company posted revenue of $2.62 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.49 billion.

JB Hunt shares have increased 24% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $169.90, a rise of 69% in the last 12 months.
