BENTONVILLE -- A man who screamed at people and made verbal threats outside the Waffle House was arrested Thursday, according to police.

Shawn M. Carter, 29, is being held in the Benton County Detention Center in connection with first-degree terroristic threatening, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release from the police department.

Police received a report around 1:30 p.m. of a Black man screaming at people in the parking lot of the Waffle House at 2308 S.E. Walton Blvd., according to the release.

An employee said Carter threatened to "shoot you guys up" and gestured as if he had a gun.

An employee of the nearby Econolodge also called around the same time, saying the man was screaming outside the business.

Officers found Carter under the Interstate 49 overpass.

Carter didn't respond to police commands as they approached him on foot, but was taken into custody without force nor injuries.

He was unarmed, according to the release.
