Tyson's Brooks joins Novalent panel

Dr. Scott Brooks, head of food safety at Tyson Foods, has joined the scientific advisory board of Novalent, a biotechnology engineering firm with a patented, antimicrobial protectant for surfaces.

Novalent's technology, which can inhibit bacteria growth for up to 90 days, has been used by PepsiCo, Pilgrim's Pride and others in the industry.

Novalent chose Brooks after a yearlong search.

"We are proud to have an executive of Scott's caliber join our Scientific Advisory team," Novalent Chief Executive Kevin Parrish said in a statement.

Before Tyson, Brooks was the head of food safety at Kraft Heinz and PepsiCo, some of the largest U.S. food and beverage companies.

He has been impressed with Novalent's technology, research and engineering capabilities since 2017, when the two parties began talking, Brooks said.

"I look forward to advising the team to help Novalent bring critical life-saving protection to their food producing clients," he said in a statement Thursday.
