HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Junction City cancels game

Junction City canceled its game Friday night at Blytheville after learning of one player testing positive for covid-19, the school announced in a news release.

Junction City Superintendent Robby Lowe told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the player was with the team as of Monday, then was sent home Tuesday from school after not feeling well. Lowe said there were at least two other players who are considered close contacts with the infected player and are currently quarantining.

The football team had left Junction City at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Lowe said. He called Blytheville Coach Brad Smith about noon when the team was in Little Rock to let him know of the positive test and the cancellation of the game.

The Dragons (2-1) are off Oct. 2 before they are scheduled to return to action Oct. 9 against defending Class 2A state champion Fordyce. Lowe said the status for the Fordyce game will be known next week after the Arkansas Department of Health completes its contact tracing with the football program.
