James takes off, scores twice as Lamar trounces Carlisle

CARLISLE -- Brady James rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries as the Lamar Warriors beat the Carlisle Bison 54-18 on Friday at Fred C. Hardke Field.

James, a senior, scored twice on runs of 35 yards.

"He's pretty good," Lamar Coach Josh Jones said. "To be honest, he's one of the fastest kids around. He really is. He was all-state. He had over 1,000 yards last year. He's a great player. He's the leader of our team."

The Warriors (2-1) finished with 271 yards rushing and 412 total yards.

"What I was so happy to see was that I felt like our offensive line came together," Jones said. "We had struggled with the offensive line the first couple of games. It looked like they did a much better job."

"Lamar is a good football team," Carlisle Coach Caleb Shock said. "Their line does a good job. James runs the ball hard. They had a really good game plan. They played really well and we played really bad."

Lamar scored touchdowns on all six of its first-half possessions to take a 46-12 lead at halftime. The Warriors got the ball to start the second half and scored on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Landon Harrison to Mat Higby with 10:24 left in the third quarter to increase their lead to 54-12.

"They looked really sharp," Jones said of his offense. "Going into conference, you've got to click. That 4A-4 Conference is tough. It was a really good night for us on offense."

Harrison completed 11 of 15 passes for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. He threw two touchdowns to Higby and a 10-yarder to Justin Dillard. Lamar's Joseph Dalton scored on a 20-yard run with 5:36 left in the first quarter.

Harrison also rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

After falling behind 16-0, the Bison (0-3) looked like they would make a game of it. J.J. Sullivan scored on a 4-yard run with 11:18 left in the first half. Four plays later, James scored on a 35-yard run with 9:48 left in the half to give the Warriors a 22-6 lead.

Carlisle cut the deficit to 30-12 on an 80-yard run by Collin Jinks with 6:12 left in the half. Jinks led the Bison with 198 yards rushing on 19 carries. Sullivan had 135 yards on 16 carries.
