Two people in a vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision in rural southwest Sebastian County on Wednesday, authorities said.

The Sebastian County sheriff's office received a report of the crash, which took place in the 9400 block of Gap Road, about 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.

Names of the involved parties were being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, the release states. The driver of the other vehicle involved was taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, although his medical condition was not immediately known.

The sheriff's office is investigating the crash.

All lanes of Interstate 40 near Knoxville in Johnson County were cleared Wednesday afternoon, almost 11 hours after a fatal accident west of Arkansas 333, near London. Two people died.

Five commercial vehicles were involved Wednesday morning in the fiery wreck on Interstate 40, authorities said.

Two of the vehicles caught fire because of the crash, according to Arkansas State police spokesman Bill Sadler. The two people who died were in one of the vehicles that caught fire, according to authorities. Their identities weren't released Wednesday, pending notification of relatives.
