The leader of Walmart Inc.'s in-house ad agency is leaving for "a new opportunity," Walmart Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside said in a memo to employees.

Stefanie Jay, vice president and general manager of Walmart Media Group, brought the company's media business in-house, "developing a strategic approach with advertisers and laying a strong foundation for growth in the ad business," Whiteside said.

"Under her leadership, the team has delivered on the vision of customer-centric advertising, self-serve and automation for advertisers," as well as driving strong revenue growth, Whiteside said.

Jay joined Walmart in 2015 after 14 years at Goldman Sachs, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Rich Lehrfeld, Walmart's senior vice president of marketing, will serve as the group's interim head while the company looks for a candidate externally, Whiteside said. Jay, who is based in the San Francisco Bay area, will work with Lehrfeld in coming weeks to smooth the transition.

Walmart Media Group offers digital advertisers an extensive customer database and a proprietary ad targeting and measuring platform.

CORRECTION: Janey Whiteside is Walmart’s chief customer officer. An earlier version of this story included an incorrect job title.
