State DIS director issues resignation

Yessica Jones, director of the state Division of Information Systems, has resigned effective Nov. 30, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transformation and Shared Services said Friday.

Jones submitted her resignation on Tuesday, department spokeswoman Alex Johnston said. Jones also serves as the state's chief technology officer.

Jones said Thursday in a written statement to "Valued Stakeholders and Friends" that she presented her two-weeks' notice "to pursue another opportunity in the private sector."

"My position will enable me to work from home and will allow me to devote more time and attention to my family," she said. "I truly believe I will depart DIS with an exceptional team in place and with the agency in good overall fiscal health."

Jones' annual salary is $161,373.26 at the Division of Information Systems, according to the Arkansas Transparency website.

In 2017, Gov. Asa Hutchinson appointed Jones as the director of the then-Department of Information Systems after she had served as interim director following the departure of former Director Mark Myers. She also served stints as the department's deputy director and as the governor's Hispanic outreach liaison.

Jones previously was a professor in Harding University's Department of Management Information Systems, a solutions developer for Little Rock-based Acxiom and a database developer for Pennzoil.

The state Department of Information Systems became a division in the newly created state Department of Transformation and Shared Services in July of 2019 under Hutchinson's executive-branch reorganization that consolidated the number of agencies from 42 to 15 reporting to him.
