Walmart introduces array of pet services

Walmart Inc.'s new suite of pet-care services includes pet insurance, dog-walking and pet-sitting, the company said Thursday.

Walmart Pet Care is billed as a "full-service, omnichannel" service for the 90 million pet owners the company says shop at its stores. Through its partnerships with industry providers, Walmart said it can make pet care convenient, simple and affordable.

Walmart Pet Insurance is available through the Bentonville-based retailer's collaboration with Petplan, a comprehensive injury and illness insurance provider for cats and dogs. Walmart customers can save up to 10% on their policies, which cover veterinary fees for accident, injury or illness. The policies also include $1,000 worth of access to online vet appointments.

The dog-walking and pet-sitting services are available through the Rover website and app. Walmart said customers can book appointments with more than 300,000 providers in communities across the country .

Walmart already offers a pet pharmacy service called Pet Rx.
