Agency's lease-bill

waiver on agenda

The City Council is set to vote Tuesday on a resolution to defer the Advertising and Promotion Commission's rental payments on its new headquarters until January because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The commission relies on tax revenue to fund its operations. Many of the businesses that pay those taxes have temporarily closed during the pandemic.

The headquarters moved this year to the city's new Welcome Center. The commission manages Argenta Plaza, which is only a block from the its new downtown offices.

The resolution states that it's in the best interest of the city to amend the commission's lease for the building to allow the group to stay while it continues to pay utilities.

Old Mill open again;

virus rules in place

The Old Mill reopened Friday after being closed "until further notice" during the pandemic.

The site will be open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and workers will clean and sanitize the restrooms regularly, the Parks and Recreation Department announced Friday. Social distancing will be required and visitors will be encouraged to return later if the Old Mill is busy.

The Old Mill, at Lakeshore Drive and Fairway Avenue, is a replica of an 1800s water-powered gristmill that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is most recognized for an appearance in the Oscar-winning 1939 film Gone With the Wind.
