Celeste Brown-Jenkins of Fayetteville places flowers Friday at the grave of her grandparents, Charles R. and Jettie A. Brown, before the Memorial Day holiday at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Brown-Jenkins' grandfather served in World War I and is buried alongside her grandmother in the shadow of the cemetery's central flag. The regular programming at the cemetery is closed to the public, but the cemetery remains open to visitors who are required to adhere to social-distancing standards because of the coronavirus pandemic.
