"Foreigner"

Jordan Mackampa

AWAL

British-Congolese singer Jordan Mackampa released his debut full length album "Foreigner" March 13. He creates soul-soaked, indie-driven tracks that swim in the sounds and stories of the cities he's inhabited over the years.

Mackampa's searing songs are documents of his life as an outsider, and his sound is a melting pot of cultures that stretch from his birthplace in the Republic of Congo to a hip hop-obsessed childhood in North London to teen years spent immersed in indie-rock in Coventry, U.K. Mackampa combines his timeless vocals with catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics to create an exciting hybrid of alternative pop and soul which will enchant and uplift in equal measure.

"Love Is An Art"

Vanessa Carlton

Dine Alone Records

Singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton released her highly anticipated sixth studio album, "Love Is An Art," March 27. The record explores the eternal seesaw that is human connection: the push, the pull, the balance, the bottoming out. It's that constantly evolving nature of love, expectations and compassion that Carlton analyzes from all angles on "Love Is An Art," from romantic, to parental, to the friends that hold us up and the leaders that repeatedly let us down.

The result is a dynamic LP filled with sticky melodies and haunting phrases, as well as experimental constructions: super high highs, super low lows, and song structures that break the mold from the expected. Unlike her previous, critically-acclaimed 2015 album "Liberman," which Carlton describes as having a calming, almost meditative palette, "Love Is An Art" reads, and sounds, "red." Huge. Passionate. The color of a beating heart.

"Solar Spectre"

OMEGA INFINITY

Season of Mist

Two words that embody the unimaginable blackness beyond the known universe, the endless cycle of birth and death, of creation and destruction.

Music firmly rooted in and inspired by Black Metal of the 90s with furious blastbeats and cacophonous, spherical guitar lines, the main concept and lyrics transcend the limitations of this style as OMEGA INFINITY stands for something that is far greater, ancient or powerful than any god or demon humanity has invented; the darkness between galaxies -- the equivalent of cosmic darkness -- the Nothing beyond existence -- The Deep Dark Void. OMEGA INFINITY released their dark debut album on March 27 and "Solar Spectre" marks the beginning of an immersive journey through our solar system and beyond.

With no live music to list, this spot will be filled by news and reviews of new albums, both local and national. Send information about your new releases to Jocelyn Murphy at [email protected].
