Altrusa of Springdale recently delivered a donation to The Compassion House for teen moms, who were in need of groceries. The money was earned through poinsettia sales. The group also sent a donation to Meals on Wheels in Springdale in March, as many shut-in seniors were in need of food delivery. The next fundraiser event will be spring flower sales in April. Rotary

Heath Ward, president of the Rotary Club of Springdale, has announced that registration is open and preparations are underway for the club's eighth annual Pig Trail Mud Run fundraiser. The Pig Trail Mud Run will take place on June 6, starting and ending at Marchant Arena, 9900 Marchant Road in Springdale, and will be run on undeveloped, rustic land in the area.

The first flight will begin at 8 a.m. The "Recovery Party," held at Marchant Arena, will offer food and beverages for runners and spectators following the run.

The club offers a fun, supervised Piglet Corral for the little ones. Children ages 4 through 10 are invited to play in the mud, squirt each other with water, and participate in a number of other fun, muddy activities while volunteers keep watch over them. There will be a $5 charge per child.

The Pig Trail Mud Run focuses on teamwork. While clocks will allow runners to time their individual race times, awards will be given for the largest team, the "best-dressed" team and for teamwork efforts. Organizations may want to consider using the event as a team-building exercise. Log in to name your team, be the captain and invite your friends, and check out the website for special team discounts.

Runners may register at the official website, pigtrailmudrun.com. Packet pick-up will take place from noon to 7 p.m. June 5 at Jose's Southwest Grille, 1032 Henri De Tonti Blvd. in Springdale. The cost for race participation until April 30 is $85. In May the price goes up to $95, and from June 1 until the day of the race, the price is $110. There are also discounts for teachers; active duty military and veterans; police, fire, and first responders; and teams of 4 to 11 people or 12 people or more.

Nearly 700 registered for last year's Pig Trail Mud Run, including runners from 14 states and two countries. With volunteers, families and other spectators, the Rotary Club estimates attendance of approximately 1,500.

Sponsorships are available, with levels from $250 to $5,000. Media sponsorships are also available for significant media event support. Media are invited to attend the event and to participate in the Run. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Springdale Rotary Charitable Foundation Trust, a non-profit organization. Proceeds from the event will fund projects of the Rotary Club of Springdale, including workforce and college scholarships, wheelchairs for people with mobility issues, the Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Contest, a literacy project which provides books for all Springdale third graders, maintaining our Little Free Libraries, and other projects to benefit the local community.
