Report is released on moms' deliveries

There was a little growth in the rate of vaginal births after a cesarean delivery between 2016 and 2018, according to a report released last week by the National Center for Health Statistics.

Among women who previously had a baby via the surgery nicknamed a C-section, vaginal births happened in 13.3% of deliveries in 2018, relative to 12.4% in 2016.

In Arkansas, the rate of such births grew by more than 20%, joining 15 other states with the greatest increase.

A initiative from the federal Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion has advocated to boost the rate of vaginal births after a cesarean section to 18.3% of deliveries.

That can reduce a mother's recovery time in some cases, though there are a few risks of complications, according to the Mayo Clinic.
