PREP BASEBALL

Siloam Springs 6, Mountain Home 5

The Panthers picked up their first win of the year Tuesday at the Arkansas Select Tournament in Farmington.

Mountain Home led 3-1 in the the bottom of the fourth when the Panthers scored four runs to take the lead, 6-3. The Bombers got two runs back but were unable tie the game.

Gavin Henson went the distance for the Panthers (1-1), allowing three earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Panthers had four base hits, one each from Reed Willbanks, Elijah Coffey, Isaac Price and Tanner Broyles. Coffey had two RBIs, while Willbanks scored two runs and had an RBI. Price and Taylor Pool each had an RBI, while Broyles scored a run and Christian Ledeker scored two runs.

The Panthers coaxed seven walks and two hit batters out of Mountain Home pitching.

PREP SOFTBALL

Gentry 16, Mansfield 4

Malea Wilson and Madi Voyles each hit a home run as Gentry erupted for eight runs in the third inning and picked up a road victory over Mansfield.

Voyles went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Kyleigh Wheaton had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Lady Pioneers' 16-hit attack. Wilson and Mazzi Jones each drove in three runs.

Wheaton pitched all five innings and struck out three to pick up the victory.

Gentry 4, Clarksville 2

Madi Voyles had two hits and drove in two runs as Gentry rallied to defeat Clarksville in Monday's season opener.

Clarksville led 2-0 after one inning, but Gentry bounced back and took the lead with a three-run sixth.

Kyleigh Wheaton went the distance in the circle and allowed just one hit while recording nine strikeouts.

Rogers Heritage 2, Tulsa Union 2(5-4 PKs)

The War Eagles came up with a season-opening win over Tulsa Union in penalty kicks.

Jonathan Morales scored a goal in regulation and added a penalty kick for Heritage. Martin Durn had the other goal in regulation, while Yair Benitez added an assist. Enrique Almaraz was strong in goal and stopped a Union penalty kick that proved to be the difference.

Ice Hogs win B1 Bantam Division title

The NWA Arkansas Ice Hogs won Blue Note Cup championship of the Missouri Hockey League in St. Louis last weekend.

The Ice Hogs are a team of 13-14-year-olds from across Northwest Arkansas. They went undefeated at 14-0-3 in B1 Bantam Division during the regular season. In the Blue Note Cup tournament in St. Louis, the team went 3-0, winning the championship game 3-2 against the Meremac Sharks in the final seconds.

With the game tied at 2-2, the Ice Hogs' Giovanni Woods slapped his own rebound into the net for the game-winner. Woods had two goals for the Ice Hogs and Keegan Fitzbibbons had the other to help the team rebound from a 2-0 deficit. The Ice Hogs defeated St. Peters 7-0 in the quarterfinals and Meremac in the semifinals 6-2.

The Ice Hogs also were runners up at a tournament in St. Louis in December and competed most of the season against teams in a higher youth hockey level. The team plays its home games at The Jones Center in Springdale.
