FAYETTEVILLE -- The Arkansas Department of Health will host a drive-through covid-19 testing event Tuesday evening, according to a news release.

People with or without covid-19 symptoms may be tested for free from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington County Health Unit, 3270 Wimberly Drive.

The Health Department regularly offers testing during standard office hours with an appointment at the Washington County Health Unit and the Benton County Health Unit at 1200 W. Walnut St., Suite 2200, in Rogers.

Patients may call (479) 521-8181 to make an appointment at the Fayetteville unit or (479) 986-1300 to make an appointment at the Rogers unit.

Specimens to be tested for covid-19 are collected via nasal and mouth swabs.

Washington County had 3,417 covid-19 cases, includ- ing 1,173 active cases, as of 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Health Department. The county had a positivity rate of 22% of the 15,576 tests performed since March.

Washington County es- pecially has seen a spike in cases over the past several weeks.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Monday during his daily news conference the county had the highest number of new cases within the past day with 92 new cases.

Benton County had 2,679 cases, including 826 active cases, as of Monday after- noon. The county had a posi- tivity rate of 8% of the 34,603 tests performed since March.

The Health Department will host another drive- through testing event 7 to 11 a.m. July 11 at the Wash- ington County Health Unit, Dr. Nate Smith, health sec- retary announced Thursday at Hutchinson’s daily news briefing.
