SPRINGDALE -- Jim Rollins, the School District's superintendent for nearly 40 years, is leaving his post.

The School Board, after meeting in executive session for about 20 minutes Tuesday, voted unanimously to accept Rollins' resignation.

Michelle Cook, the board's president, spoke after the vote.

"Dr. Rollins, from the entire board, we just wanted to tell you how much we appreciate you, how thankful we are for you, and how we look forward to celebrating in the days and months to come your legacy and what you've done for us," Cook said.

Rollins started as the district's superintendent in July 1982. He said Springdale is a great place to live and raise a family.

"I do want to thank this board for allowing me to serve, to work in this school district, and honestly, for all of the great boards I've been privileged to work with over time," he said.

Northwest Technical Institute has scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m. Wednesday. The institute's board has offered Rollins its president's position.
