Fayetteville-Springdale Elks Lodge held a drug awareness contest among six school districts in Northwest Arkansas. The theme for this year was "Life does not rewind; chose life, not drugs." Cut Ups

The Calico Cuts Ups will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. The club will begin the year with a "Stash for Cash." The members are going through their sewing stash and coming up with items they decide they really don't need. All items will be priced, so bring cash to purchase and a bag to carry your treasures home in. The sale will end at 12:55 p.m.

The regular program will begin at 1 p.m., and the speakers will be Will and Waltina Hanna, volunteer coordinators for the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter. The guild donated 111 quilts as well as other items to the shelter in 2019.

There is no charge for a guest for the first visit. The Calico Cut Ups do have a $5 guest fee for their meetings that helps defray program costs for a paid speaker. This fee is applied to membership. Membership of $25 is half price July through December.

Democrats

The Benton County Democratic Club will meet at noon Jan. 27 at the Golden Corral in Rogers. The speaker will be Mayra Esquivel with the Arkansas Immigrant Defense office.

Garden Club

The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. Water, tea and pastries will be served at 9:30 a.m.

Garden club members Geri Hoerner and Beth Kastl will speak about gardens in London. Master Gardener Tony LiCausi will provide one-on-one gardening information immediately following the regular meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Republicans

The Republican Party of Benton County will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Benton County Services Center at 1204 S.W. 14th St. in Bentonville. The guest speaker will be Arkansas Supreme Court candidate Barbara Webb.

Rotary

The Rotary Club of Fayetteville will meet at noon Jan. 30 at Mermaids, 2217 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville. The speaker will be from Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

Artists

The Ozark Creative Artists, formerly the Bella Vista Decorative Artists, will meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 1 at Riordan Hall, 3 Riordan Drive in Bella Vista.

Member Sandra Cordes will teach a class on transfer painting, using colourist paints heat pressed on a pillow cover.

The purpose of the organization is to stimulate interest and appreciation for the art of painting with various mediums. Each month the OCA will have a member or visiting national artist teach an art project. Painters of all skill levels make up the OCA Organization. All visitors are welcome.

DAR

The James Bright Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Rogers Historical Museum, 322 S. Second St. in Rogers. Monte Harris will be the speaker.

Civil War

The Bella Vista Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Bella Vista Historical Museum, 1885 Bella Vista Way.

The guest speaker will be Greg Mayfield, who will bring a local flavor to the round table. His great-great-grandfather bought the Lee home and store at Leetown, on the southern edge of the Battle of Pea Ridge, and owned 330 acres there. Mayfield has his personal and business ledgers, from which he draws information for his talk. Included in them is a claim against the federal government, which he pursued for 30 years, taking it to Congress twice.

RV Club

The Jolly Rogers Good Sam RV Club will meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 7 at the Golden Corral in Rogers.

The club is based out of Northwest Arkansas and camps around the northern half of Arkansas, southern part of Missouri and eastern Oklahoma. New members are welcome.

Radio Club

Little Switzerland Amateur Radio Club will meet at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at Mercy Hospital, 214 Carter St. in Berryville. The club meets on the second Saturday of each month.

The radio club also offers testing for technical, general or amateur extras at noon on the second Saturday of each month. Reservations are required at least seven days prior to testing, as is a current amateur radio license or FCC registration number. The test fee is $15.

Women

The Christian Women's Connection will meet at 9 a.m. Feb. 11 at Bella Vista Community Church, 75 Lancashire Blvd. The public is invited.

The feature will be Megan Smith with Horses for Healing. Laurie Grosse will be the guest speaker. Her presentation will be titled "Home on the Range."

This brunch is held the second Tuesday of each month, and an all-American breakfast is served for $10. The program is sponsored by Stonecroft Ministries.

Chorus

The Bella Vista Women's Chorus meets from 12:45 to 3 p.m. every Monday from September to May in the choir room at First Methodist Church on Boyce Drive. New singers are welcome. No tryouts or previous experience is requited to join.

Altrusa

The Bentonville/Bella Vista Chapter, Altrusa International, is hosting a Games Day in Bella Vista beginning at 10 a.m. March 4 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St. Bernard Lane. The party offers an opportunity for participants to purchase a table to play games of their choice, such as bridge, mah jongg or canasta. Guests will be treated to lunch provided by local Altrusans, and all proceeds will go to programs benefitting children's literacy. This event welcomes men and women. The entry fee, due in advance of the event, is $48 per four-person table.

Cancer

Hope Cancer Resources offers support groups for cancer patients, caregivers and loved ones throughout the year at 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Groups are facilitated by licensed social workers and counselors. Cancer-specific groups, as well as Spanish-speaking meetings, are scheduled.
